Recipes: Tuna lasagne using Fynbos Fine Foods Pasta Sauce, Sun Dried Tomato and olive Savourings and Dream Sauce.

Yield: Makes enough for 4-6 servings

Preparation time: 40 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes

Total time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

The recipe consists of 3 components, namely: tomato base, white sauce and the layering.

Component 1:

Ingredients and method for the tomato base:

1 x Bottle Fynbos Fine Foods Pasta Sauce

1/2 x Bottle Olive and Sun Dried Tomato Savourings

3 x  Tablespoons of the Chilli Dream Sauce

1 x Teaspoon olive oil

1 x Chopped yellow onion

1 x Punnet of diced button mushrooms

1 x Punnet of halved cherry tomatoes

1 x Tablespoon of chopped garlic

1 x Sachet of tomato paste

3 x Tablespoons of flour

2 x tins tuna (optional)

Salt and pepper for seasoning

Heat the oil in a pan, add chopped onions and allow to sweat for approximately 6 minutes.

Add the chopped mushrooms and tomatoes

Add garlic and seasoning. Stir and allow to cook for 10 minutes. Add the Pasta Sauce, paste, tuna, Dream Sauce and Savourings. Allowing to simmer for 7 minutes. Add in the flour for thickening purposes.

Component 2:

Ingredients and method for the White Sauce:

3 x  Tablespoons of flour

3 x Tablespoons butter

1 x teaspoon salt

1 x teaspoon pepper

1 x litre milk

1.5 cups of grated cheddar/mozzarella cheese

On a low heat: Place the butter and flour and whisk until a runny paste forms. Gradually pour in the milk (whilst consistently whisking, one should approximately use all the milk (until desired consistency is reached)). Add the cheese, whisk until cheese is melted and then turn off the stove.

Tips: If the white sauce is too thick, add milk and if it is too thin, add flour. Make the sauce on a low heat, be patient and do not forget to continuously whisk.

Component 3:

Layering:

  1. Place a layer of the tomato base at the bottom of the casserole dish
  2. Place a layer of the cheesy white sauce
  3. And a layer of lasagne sheets (We love the egg-less spinach sheets).

Repeat this once or twice, depending on how much sauce you want between the layers. Make sure to end off with a layer of the tomato sauce and white sauce and then sprinkle with cheese evenly over the top.

Bake at 180 °C for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve and enjoy!
